Anterior knee pain is common in adolescents. In many cases, an exhaustive investigation of all the conditions listed above runs into one dead end after another. We are left with the unsatisfactory diagnosis of adolescent anterior knee pain. It is unsatisfactory because the specific reason for the pain remains unknown. My scientific hunch is that the muscles are growing faster than they can coordinate. Fortunately, the condition gradually resolves as the adolescent reaches maturity. In the meantime, the parent understandably looks for someone who will provide a more rapid cure.
